Lennox Longboard Classic 2011

It was our 14th year & Lennox Longboarders Club have once again presented the annual Lennox Longboard
Classic at Lennox main beach..
95 competitors travelling from far afield as New Zealand to Bundaberg Qld to
South Australia. They  surfed covering 9 age & gender divisions,
displaying some again quality longboarding skills in sometimes trying conditions
at Lennox main, especially at low tide. With a incoming tide toward the midday
mark & easing of some unseasonal northerly winds at this time of the year.
Some very surfable waves of metre plus with ridable faces provided some as
I stated outstanding longboarding.

Notable performances over the weekend were from Lennox new lad Aaron Coopersmith
in the Open 9ft & Over 30’s, The winner of the Open 9ft Ben Dickens from
Byron, displaying some classy surfing in his prelude to the up & coming
Aussie Longboard Titles. In the Ladies Open division, Roisin Carolan from Byron/
Lennox displaying some great moves amongst the ladies & showing
that she is going to figure prominately in future longboarding events in Oz & the
return of a prominent past Lennox local Luke Glassington, showing after a 5
to 6 year lay off, that those longboarding surfing skills are a natural inbuilt
style that only needs that passion to rise again & display that
talent. And even to our senior crew with Ben Hutchings from Cabba surfing with
youthful drive & bringing smiles to many onlookers, That’s Longboarding.

Saturday Night brought the w’end festivities to the Lennox Hotel & following
the usual Rugby international, competitors giveaways were the order of the
night with two local lads scoring longboards from Global Surf Industries, A
Warden Magic model to Neil Edmonds & The 2nd longboard a Modern to Grant
Ryan, How stoked were they…..Post giveaways the pub cruised to the music
of surf band Mal & The Longboarders.

Sunday brought us Semifinals Mystery to Open 9’s finals. Better conditions
with exceptional longboarding , culminating in the preso at the Lennox Hotel
in the pm. The Comp raffle draw with Prizes to 1st – a McTavish Fireball from
Global Surf Industries to Glenn Martin from Noosa, 2nd- – 2 nights accom for
4 at Headland Beach Resort Lennox Head, to Terry O’Grady,  Bangalow & 3rd
– A Tooheys Golf bag to Julie Rowling of Lennox. Donations are made to organisations
from proceeds of these raffles, as we have done in the past to the Local Westpac
Rescue helicopter, NSW Cancer Council, Local surf lifesaving club & a

association. Further donations to be made after the Classic wrap up.

Sponsorship plays a integral part of any event & this years classic thanks
all who came on board both major & minor. Special note is made to the Major
Sponsors again this year, The Old Guys Rule organization from Noosa supplying
a awesome comp T’SHIRT.  The Global Surf Industies group supply of the longboard
prizes. The Northern Star Local paper covering the event . We thank all who
supported Classic 2011 & hope that support continues in future events.

And to sum up the 2011 Classic, It’s the Surfer, the competitor coming together
for a fun time, meeting new & old friends & competing in the
true sense of our sport, & showing some awesome displays on water.
