Club History of  The Lennox Longboarders Club.

   

Lennox Longboarders was founded in 1996. With no longboarding club in lennox a handful of guys got together to form the club, today it’s still going strong as ever & very family orientated . Present numbers in our ranks are above the 50 mark surfing. Regular social occasions & comp days keep the the group doing what they love, surfing longboards. The location is perfect, Lennox Head boasts a world renowned point break.
The club was proposed back in 1996 at a expression of interest meeting on April 30th . The meeting attended by 25 people, discussion was for a social longboarding club formation. And this held at the Lennox Head Bowling Club (Now referred to as Club Lennox) the club was approached as the possible patron of the new club. a proposal was made to hold a social longboarding club round on the 1st Sunday of each month.
First Committee members of the club were, President – Paul Hicks, Secretary – Daffy Chisholm, Treasurer Craig Moane, Contest Director Crouch McCleary, Publicity Officer Keryn Noach, & Social Director Greg Butler.
The First Club Round was held on the first weekend of August 1996, Two heats were surfed & a social round.
The club in 1997 held it’s First Annual event. The Lennox Longboard Classic Surfed for 19 years of it’s history on that 1st weekend of August. Now this year 2017, in it’s 20th year. It has grown into a valued longboarding event on the East coast of Australia, Showing of the art of longboarding at Lennox Head.
Club Rounds are now the 2nd Sunday of each month, to work in with our local Surfing Fraternity, Ballina Malibu Club, LEBA, & The Allgirls Surfriders.
Over the years Club Inter challenges, With the former Tugan Longboarders who became Currumbin Longboarders late 90’s
More Recently mid 2000’s With Burleigh Longboard Club. Over the years various interclub meets with our neighbours Ballina Malibu Club. And Participation in the 5 ways & 6 ways Longboard Interclubs with Evans Head, Byron, Cabarita,  Ballina & New Brighton.

The Annual Lennox Longboard Classic Held on the 1st weekend of  August.
Hosted by the club, with some highlighted sponsors over the years naming some of the major ones. Old Guys Rule clothing, Bintang Beer, Global Surf Industries,  Coopers , Lennox Hotel & load of valuable local Sponsors, This brought a national flavour of longboarding to the Lennox Beaches. It has grown into a favoured boutique event, bringing a talented longboarding pool to display there talents to Lennox Head & the Media.
There is also Characters in all clubs & Lennox Longboarders had it’s characters who shaped this club, Founding members Daffy Chisholm & the departed Paul Hicks & Mick Young.
Life Members of this proud club , Wayne Booth (Boothy) 2007, Terry Kay & Paul Hicks 2010 ,  Grant Ryan & Peter Regan 2016 All contributed to make this club what it is in 2017.
From our Club ranks have come talented Longboarders, who shone on the national stage, the Glassington Boys Luke & Alex ex Aussie National finalists, Scott Channon longboarding  comp finalist on many occasions. The talent that grew with the club & out of the club has been a achievement.

​We as a club keep up our profile, supporting many charitable  organisations over the years, The Cancer Council, The Disabled Surfing Association The Westpac rescue Helicopter & The local Surf lifesaving Club @ Lennox.

Many a local of Lennox has been a member of the Lennox Longboarders Club and the memories of the events  associated with the club. Setting up the Gromfest & Allgirls Surfriders Events. Lennox was for many years a part of these events. Highlighting our profile as a club to the surfing fraternity. Hosting of our local longboarding event in August. Participation in the Love Lennox Festival Board Swap events
We have honoured our passing members, Paul Hicks, Peter Edmonds & Mick Young.
It has made the club a important part of the Surfing Culture of Lennox.
We love it because of Surfing, Longboarding & mateship & our lifestyle here in Lennox makes us a part of Lennox Surfing Culture.
