The UV Natural Sunscreen Lennox Classic 2008
The 11th Lennox Classic competition was held on the 2nd & 3rd August, Saturday & Sunday, with 108 entries and 104 competitors surfing, covering 9 age & gender divisions.

Day 1
Saturday surfing starting at 720am & the venue Lennox Head Main beach. In perfect conditions after a overnight change from a front, competitors were greeted with pristine conditions, 1 metre waves, mid morning hightide & offshore winds lasting all day. All heats were surfed in brilliant winter sunshine & the over 50's & over 55's Semi finals finished on Day 1.
The night activities were celebrated at the Lennox Point hotel. A competitors' draw & a mystery draw were conducted following the conclusion of the Rugby between Australia & NZ. Winner of the competitors' longboard giveaway from Catapult Surf & Four way fin systems was Forfar Petrie of Lennox Head. The night was a Coopers brewery promotion, an event sponsor. This was followed by music from the surf band Mal & The Longboarders, A great night had by all.
Day 2 Semis & Finals Day
Another day with sunshine, off shore Southwesterlies, but a increase in swell from 1 to 2 metres on the sets & a challenge to paddle out. Surfing commencing at 720am with a juniors semi. In the afternoon about 130pm the south-easterly set in making the surfing more difficult but mastered by the talent in the finals conducted at that time.
Finals commenced at 10am with the Mystery final, flowing through the divisions with the Open 9ft the final event. Standout surfing from individuals throughout the finals came from Isaac Field, from Evans Head, in the old Mal division some great noseridering & winning the 2008 Noseriding award for the event. The surfing from the Open 9ft Competitors Heath Norrish & Paul Scholten was outstanding & the Ladies competitors Kirsty Webster & Annie Watts showing their abilities in trying at times difficult conditions.
The Event Presentation was held again at the Lennox Point Hotel at 4pm. A Raffle was conducted all weekend, proceeds to the NSW Cancer Council & the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service. 1st Prize a longboard from Astro surfboards won by Neil Edmonds (Wollongbar), 2nd Prize 2 Nights accommodation for 4 at the Headland Beach Resort Lennox Head. Won by Angus Gover, Lennox Head. The Junior Division is now the Peter Edmonds Memorial Juniors, Peter was a Lennox club member who was the shark victim back in March this year, A tribute was made to his memory & one of the Cadets, Callum Gover said some worthy words of character, he was the Cadet winner.

The UV NATURAL SUNSREEN 11TH ANNUAL LENNOX LONGBOARD CLASSIC 2008 is on this weekend 2nd & 3rd August and attracting around 100 competitors covering 10 age & gender divisions. Surfers are coming from right along the eastern seaboard, from South Australia to Bundaberg Queensland. The likely venue for the 2 days of competition will be Lennox Main Beach, with heats & some semi finals on Saturday & the remaining semi finals & finals on Sunday.
This year some notable longboarders will be competing such as Kara Nobbs (Ballina) in the Junior & Open Ladies divisions, in the Open 9ft Heath Norrish (Gold Coast), a previous winner in this event returns after an absence of some 7 years. Other noted surfers in the Open 9ft are Ruben Roxburgh (Evans) & Paul Sholten (Woolgoolga) all past winners of various longboarding events. Mike Pimm (Cabarita) a consistent finalist in many longboarding events in Australia is in the Over 50’s & Old Mal divisions,. The Old Malibu event stands as a draw card with keen advocates of this form of traditional surfing such as Justin Healey (Caloundra QLD) & Isaac Fields (Evans Head). The Ladies division is also developing into an interesting draw card with ages ranging from under 18 thru to over 35.

The Saturday night festivities kick off at 7.00pm at the Lennox Point Hotel with a competitors give a way draw, great local band Mal & the Longboarders performing and culminating with a competitors draw for a brand new Catapult longboard.
A raffle is being conducted as part of the event with a longboard from Astro Surfboards as first prize & a accommodation package for 4 at Headland Beach Resort Lennox Head second prize & a DVD player from John Southon Sound & Electronics for third. Proceeds from this will be allocated to local charitable groups such as the NSW Cancer Council & Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter as in previous years. The draw is at the contest presentation at the Lennox Point Hotel at 4.00pm.
So the ‘Classic’ is shaping up as another interesting longboarding event for Lennox again this year. It would not be possible to run this event without the continued support from all our sponsors both old and new and we thank them for their commitment to surfing.
